$4.5M for Brouwer is the definition of a solid deal

Murray didn't do anything to hurt the Ducks ... as yet so he is the big winner - that Boston deal for DB is kinda a head turner -

I think KO will end up being the one that is looked back on as the worst over time - He just isn't worth that and I think not playing with JT for however much he did or didn't on the Island -- just can't bring myself to say Brooklyn - is really going to show up down the road - even as soon as next yr -
After the Hall trade Oil really had no choice but to sign Lucic he could have asked for 10 and they would have had to pay it -

Tanner's a hack. He's what's scraped off Skip Bayless's bating shoes.

Why the hate on Brouwer. 4.5 mil isn't a massive hit, and it's 4 years so the contract ends when he is 34, not when he is 38.

I know his value inflated this post season, but Brouwer has always performed in his role. I actually think his was one of the more "sane" contracts signed yesterday.

Agreed. The long term deals for older guys like Ladd and Backes are the ones that will hurt in the end. Brouwer at 4.5 for only 4 is good value for Calgary.

Not trolling you at all, but how do you feel about the term on the Ladd deal?

Backes and Lucic are the worst. No contest.

The Brouwer deal is bad. Sorry your favorite team is run by Brian Burke, but your inability to be objective doesn't give you the right to be rude.

Ladd & Okposo the worst, Backes & Lucic runners-up.

You think because he scored some playoff goals he's "clutch" but what he really is is a fourth liner who just got overpaid because of recency bias.

Here's a chart that shows you might has well have given $4 million bucks to Kyle Chipchura.

My thoughts exactly. Flames needed a big RW badly. The guy has scored almost 20 goals a year consistently for the last 7 years. I may not be an anlytics graduate, I do understand their value but I've been watching hockey for a lot of years & any guy that you can chalk in 20 goals a year is an asset you just added for free. We have young guys like Shinkaruk & Poirrier & Tkachuk that we expect to push Brouwer to the 3rd line in a few years. So yeah, a 3 year deal would have been ideal but again, when you don't have to give up assets for a 20 goal winger per year is pretty sweet. At least we didn't have to give up Gaudreau for Larssen type of deal.

Brouwer has been a 20 goal 40 point guy for a few seasons before this years playoffs. Not many 4th liners pulling those stats, plus he plays PP and PK minutes.

At some point you have to start looking at stats that actually matter at the end of a hockey game. Take a look at goals scored for Chipchura versus Brouwer & it's not even close. So my reply to you is keep looking at all these other analytics & I'll take a proven goal scorer when the game is on the line.

I don't like the contract, as I still feel it is $1m too much and 1 yr too long. However, it is nice that he wants to live in the city, and I think another team would have offered more. To say it is the worst when it is only 4 yrs is not fair. Nielsen, for example, is much worse, and that isnt even the worst signing of the day.

If the worst thing your GM does on UFA day is give out 4 million too much over 4 years, chalk that up as a win.

2 years too long, but he isnt like Lucic and Backes where those types of players decline faster. And the way the contract is constructed if we buy him out its a 333k caphit

But he doesn't score enough compared to the ice time he gets, he doesn't suppress shots (huge problem for a guy who's main contributions are supposed to be defensive) and he doesn't make players he plays with better, he makes them worse.

There are rookies on ECL on your AHL team who will contribute more than Troy Brouwer will. Sure, Lucic is over paid and over extended, but at least he'll come close to matching his salary when he scores 40 goals in each of the next two years. In Brouwer you paid money for a guy who quite literally makes your team worse.

Except that if somebody let Kyle Chipchura play as many minutes as they let Brouwer all the evidence we have suggests you'd do better. Scoring an extra goal is worthless if you let two extra goals in.

Lucic 40 goals?

O K man now this is just for the lulz. I thought your Yandle bit was bad, but this is some next level delusion.

For everyone defending the Brouwer and Eriksson contracts but hating on lucic Brouwer is 30 power forward, scores between 33-43 pts and $4 mil cap hit and will be 34 when contract expires.... Eriksson is 30 scores 40-70 pts per year 6mil cap will be 36 when contract expires.. Lucic is 28 45-63 pts per year 6mil cap hit and will be 35 when contract expires and is probably the premier power forward in the NHL

Good point, but at least next year Neilson will make Detroit better. If someone wants to think longer term, I have no problem with that. Even if you like the Brouewer deal, I don't have a problem with that. There are - I suppose - some positives.

But I am just saying there are so many reasons to criticize it that calling a guy names and acting like a moron is completely insane. I just feel a few people could try acting like adults and being respectful to the people who provide them with free entertainment.

And yeah, clearly fighting a losing battle here, but someone needs to say it.
